DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Schneider Electric, the leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, announced today that during GITEX Technology Week, it will showcase the latest innovations that will support the Middle East and Africa’s USD 7 billion Internet of Things (IoT) market and enable Smart Cities.

From Dubai’s Smart City initiatives to smart airports and trains regionally, Middle East countries and organizations are accelerating investment in the IoT to drive sustainable performance, optimize costs and operations, and enhance safety and security. As a result, the Middle East and Africa IoT spend is set to grow by 80 percent from USD 7 billion in 2018 to USD 12.6 billion by 2021, according to IDC.

Supporting the region’s digital transformation, at GITEX Technology Week, Schneider Electric’s solar-powered Innovation Hub on Wheels will highlight 17 use cases for the Schneider Electric EcoStruxure architecture. Visitors can experience demos of energy digitization across six key segments: Data Center, Buildings, Transportation, Water and Waste Water Management, Oil and Gas, and Utilities.

“Record-high spend on the Internet of Things shows that Middle East and Africa CIOs are early adopters of technology innovations to meet business needs and to enable reliable, secure, and cost-effective Smart Cities,” said Hanan Darwish, Cluster President – Gulf and Pakistan, Schneider Electric. “At GITEX, we will showcase how the Internet of Things can make buildings run better, optimize energy production and transmission, and secure critical national infrastructure.”

Schneider Electric’s regional spokespersons and industry vertical experts will be exchanging best practices from regional pioneers such as Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Ajman Bank, Dr Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital, Hilton Garden Inn Mall of the Emirates, and Kuwait Oil Company.

Forming the foundation of organizations’ digital transformation is Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure, an open and interoperable architecture, which covers three layers. Connected products such as sensors, breakers, and actuators for the base. Edge control provides real-time local control. The top software layer of applications, analytics, and services can provide real-time insights to enhance operations.

Showcasing the latest innovations in mixed reality, visitors to the Innovation Hub on Wheels can use augmented reality tablets and Microsoft HoloLens holograms to virtually check, dismantle, and repair industrial system. Smart Grids can also scan, map, and assign repair teams in case of outages.

One of the key enablers of organizational digital transformation is the need for modernizing data center infrastructure, in order to ensure that IT systems are highly available, efficient, and secure. Alongside the Innovation Hub on Wheels, visitors can experience how a pre-fabricated data center can simplify data center planning, construction, and implementation and experience real-life solutions.

Aligned with the GITEX Future Stars program, Schneider Electric is supporting the region’s young innovators through the Go Green in the City competition. The worldwide competition aims to support bold ideas and innovative solutions from university students for smarter and more energy-efficient cities. The 2017 edition saw 20,000 entries from 3,000 universities in 180 countries worldwide.
